Nana Knows Best

Can you believe that it is only Wednesday? I woke up this morning and something reminded me of my Nana. I just couldn't stop thinking about her. Therefore, I wore her skirt. Yep, you heard that right, I wore one of my Nana's skirts. (My nana was 86 when she passed away 4 years ago). It is brown herringbone. Can't go wrong there. She was such a stylish sassy lady. However, I think Nana wore the skirt with the matching jacket. I prefer to wear them as separates. I paired the skirt with my favorite color of green to wear.

I'm having a little bit of writers/bloggers block but I wanted to show off Nana's clothes. Enjoy.

PS- This is a rare occasion occasion in which my hair is straight. What do you think? I think I look like a weirdo but I didn't feel like washing it today.

Start Off with a Roar

On most mornings, my alarm goes off at 6:08 am and I lay in bed for about 10 minutes thinking about my outfit today. By the time I 6:18 am rolls around, I am ready to hop in the shower and start my day. Today it was dark and cold and the last thing I wanted to do was to wake up. As I got in the shower, I still had no idea what I was going to wear. All I knew was that it was definitely a tights day. I was eager to try out my new belt that I picked up that weekend. Overall, I am happy with this last minute outfit choice.

Funny story about these boots. I bought them last year at Forever 21 for some amazing steal. I wanted them sooo bad even though they did not have my size I still bought them...a size an a half too big. On a good day, my foot measures in at a size 6. These boots are a size 7 1/2. For that reason, I can only wear these boots in small doses.

Another note about shoe size... My foot was officially measured when I went to buy new ski boots and it measure a 5 1/2. WHAT!?! Who has feet that small!? And since ski boots you buy a size smaller, my boots look like midget boots.

In honor of this upcoming ski season, I painted my nails China Glaze "Black Diamond" from their Ski Collection a few years ago. I can not tell you how excited I am for ski season! Bring on the mountain men!!

Casual Saturday

Yesterday, UConn Alumni hosted a Pub Crawl/Scavenger Hunt throughout the Back Bay. It was an afternoon event so I wanted something casual. I also wanted an excuse to show off my new kicks. With the cuffed jeans and the Converse sneaks, I felt a little like Baby from Dirty Dancing. I figured I would be the only one who would make that reference and decided to wear the outfit anyway. I added the ring and the earrings so I didn't look too much like a boy.

The pub crawl/scavenger hunt was through drinkandhunt.com. Basically, the representatives organize everything for your organization. While my team, Team GFA, was more into the drinking aspect than the hunting aspect, it was a good afternoon. It combined all things I like: UConn, drinking, Boston, and trivia.

In honor of Team GFA (grenade free America), Tracy and I sported the Snooki poof.

Miss Mary Mack

Coat: Victoria Secrets
Pants: JCrew
Shoes: DSW

I am obsessed with this coat. I had been eyeing it all last season in the Victoria Secret catalog but I couldn't justify spending the money on a mustard yellow coat. I already have waayy too many coats as it is. But then, low and behold, this summer, I received notice through shopittome.com (if you want to join this too, let me know I'll send you my code) that this coat was on sale. Although it was the dead of summer, I needed this coat. The fact that it went on sale was a sign from above that I should buy it. Now I try to wear it every chance I get. But I do feel bad for my other fall coat because it is equally as fabulous.

If you haven't noticed already, I love this yellow color of the coat. It warms my complexion right up. I own many shirts, dress, and now a coat in this amazing color. It is unexpected but not too wild of a color for the work place.

One of my students told me today that I looked like Miss Mary Mack (Mack Mack) because I had buttons all down my back (back back). I thought this was an adorable connection.

I LOVERMONT

Sorry I have been on hiatus last week. I just didn't feel like a fashionista last week. It was a rainy week and I was trying to get everything done at school for this coming week so I could book it out of school on Friday. During the long Columbus Day weekend, my girlfriends and I took a trip to Vermont. It was Harpoon Brewery's Octoberfest. (The Vermont Octoberfest trumps the Boston one any day. It has a laid back vibe) And after this weekend, I can officially say I LOVERMONT!!!

The fall foliage was amazing, the beer was delish, and the boys were rugged. For a trip to Vermont, I needed to wear something plaid, obviously. The boys we met thought I looked like Shaun White's sister. Bahahaha. I think I dressed the part of a Vermont-y. (Being up there made me soooo excited for ski season!!!)  I also included a picture of my fashionista friend, Allison. She wore HEELS to our outdoor drinking fest. I loved her jacket, so I included the picture. Check it out!

Is denim allowed?

Some schools that I have worked at, jeans are allowed, as long as they are 'dressy jeans.' However, where I currently work, jeans are not part of work place attire. The reasoning behind it is that our students wear uniforms, so the teachers should dress professionally.

Here's my question...is wearing denim (but not jeans) breaking the rules? In the outfit below, I'm wearing a denim skirt. Technically, it's not jeans but it is made out of the same material as jeans. Is this too loose of an interpretation?? Well, I wore this to school last week and no one said anything. Actually, that's a lie, two of my colleagues commented that "the skirt is super cute."

I'd love to know your thoughts on this denim debate.

Total side note--I feel wicked American in this outfit. The red, white, and blue in a fun, non-American flag way. I will have to remember this for Memorial Day and/or the Fourth of July

Ps-- What do you think of the new hair cut?? Thanks to Hannah Pearson, I no longer look like a lion. I almost look like an adult!! EEK!! Love it!

UConn Homecoming

Homecoming is the time of year when I put all my fashion sense on a back burner in order to support my alma mater. I was excited to wear my new UConn sweatshirt. (I know I'm wearing ripped jeans and sneakers but like I said, fashion sense on hold. UConn Homecoming > Homecoming Fashion) We packed four of us (and all our gear) into my Honda Fit and headed off to East Hartford, CT. My college roommates and I tailgated like no other. Big Frank made his delicious breakfast juice. Cornhole was a great addition to our tailgating gear. We watched UConn to victory! I did not see as many random people as I hoped but it was great to be back. On our drive home, we made a stop on campus to see our friend Aaron. However, our return to campus would not be complete without a trip to Ted's, the local watering hole.

See you next year, homecoming!
