Hittin the Slopes

The past few days, I have been less than fashionable. I have been living in under armor and ski boots. It has been sooo worth it. The snow keeps falling and I keep skiing. It's great. Yesterday visibility was tough at Cannon Mountain but today was the most perfect day for skiing.  Blue bird skies and awesome snow. After the past two days, I don't want vacation to end. Maybe I'll ditch teaching, move out west, and become type a ski instructor. Then I will marry a burly man with a beard who drinks a dark lager all year long. Mmmm... one can dream, right?

Christmas Sparkle

Another successful Christmas! My family and I spent a few days down the Cape with my extended family. We had a cut throat ping pong tournament, per usual. And per usual, I was out in the first round. (And this year I even trained for a week before hand. I wish I was joking when I say this, but I am not). We also added a Minute to Win It competition to the end of Christmas. Great addition! I hope it makes an appearance at other family gatherings. I had a lot of fun just sitting around and chatting with my family. This year we focused on spending time with family rather than gift giving. I will admit, I did not miss the extra gifts at all. :o)

I made pumpkin whoopie pies that were a huuuuge success. Wicked easy and wicked good. They instantly became a family favorite.

Our family Christmas is very casual and low key. However, I just bought new tights and really wanted to wear them, so this is the outfit I came up with. When I walked downstairs my father commented that it looked like I had tree branches growing on my skirt and I belonged in the forrest. (He thinks he's a fashionista, but he is a gym teacher who is constantly in sweats, so I took the comment with a grain of salt). I would also like to give props to my cousin Kathryn for taking these photos of me. They turned out fabulous.

Old Man Chic

Lately I've been drawn to fair isle sweaters and old grandpa cardigans. I'm not sure why. So I rummaged through my parents old sweaters and I found this great find. (At least I think it's great). It's from LLBean back when they cared strictly about dressing the Maine-man. I can picture myself wearing it apres-skiing in a lodge full of burley men with beards drinking some type of winter lager. Mmm... the thought of it just sounds exciting. What do you think? Old man chic or just old man?

Holiday Nails

As many of you know, I am obsessed with nail polish. I love it. I own more than 100 nail polishes organized by color. I read blogs about it as well as constantly talking about it. God forbid some rando tells me they like my nail polish, I give them in detail the brand and color name as well we application tips. I know it can get annoying but that's me. :)

I'm usually not into nail art or designs but in lieu of the season, I thought I would get festive. (My students absolutely adore them...but then again, what nine year old girl wouldn't love sparkly nails). I layers two colors on top of each other. Both from China Glaze holiday collection. I used Seche base coat. (per usual). I used two coats of Cheers to You. I probably could have gotten away with one coat but I just wasn't satisfied with one coat. Then I used two coats of Party Hearty. No top coat.  Check it out below. (Let's hope Santa bring a new camera. After 6 years, mine is on it's way out).

Ps- Cousin Jillian, if you are reading this, theses are some of the colors that you can look forward to when you come to the east coast in July.

A denim shirt??

Over the past week, I've been secretly wanting a chambray shirt. I was afraid to admit this to anyone for fear that they would laugh in my face. I can hear my college roommate, Chrissy laughing at me right now. After I purchased my denim shirt, I immediately called her to admit to her my latest fashion find. However, my fellow bloggers have inspired me to just go for it and get it. Well, so, I did. I was excited to finally figure out how to style it. I looked online and through magazines. I'd figure I'd start off pretty basic. To my surprise, no one reacted crazy for wearing a chambray shirt. My harshest critic (my friend who I grew up with and now work with) actually said she liked the outfit. (Score!) I expect to find more creative ways to style it. Be on the look out.

What are your thoughts on the chambray shirt?

Little Miss Home Maker

Well, it's almost Christmas and I am just getting into the spirit. This particular night, I came home from school and in the mood to bake Christmas cookies. (Hence the reason why I am standing next to a stove). My color choice in my clothes may still say autumn but I promise, I am in the Christmas spirit. I just do not like red clothes because I am afraid it will clash with my fiery locks.

Speaking of locks, I tried out some new hair products that I am in love with!! My curls are both a blessing and a burden. The curls start out with lots of life but quickly give way to gravity and I end up looking like an alien. After reading Modly Chic, a favorite blog of mine, I went out and bought Ouidad. It claims to be a miracle for curly hair. Sephora sells a variety pack so I didn't have to make the commitment of full size bottles. So far I have used the deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner, the climate control heat and humidity gel, and the moisture infusing refreshing spray. I have to say, I am in love! Let's see if this love lasts. Only time will tell.

Slope Side View

It's finally ski season! I could not be happier. My girlfriends and I planned a ski weekend. We brought along our friend Colleen who skied for the first time in about 8years. She did great! We skied at Cannon Mountain in Franconia, NH. For the early ski season, the conditions were great.

During the winter, my wardrobe changes from feminine to sporty. I am trying to find cute ski clothes that don't make me look like a man. With new winter clothing technology, this is getting easier. While the sport is mostly men, women have been coming out with great designs. I am on the look out for new base layer pants that doesn't look like long underwear. I saw some on  athletica but they were all sold out.

I am also loving the apres-ski attire. I'm thinking fair isle sweaters and big furry boots. Can you picture it?! With a big taller mug of Woodstock Pig's Ear Brown Ale. And sitting by the fire. Theses are several reasons why I love ski season.

Until next week on the slopes.

Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner

This sweater/blazer was one of my few black Friday purchases. I'm never one to go shopping on black Friday. I don't do well with crowds for me, it's not worth it. However, Tracy and I decided to do some casual shopping on Friday just as an excuse to get out of the house for a while. Upon entering the LOFT, I immediately fell in love with this sweater/blazer. I saw it on a mannequin and almost ripped it off. My eyes darted around the store trying to find it on a hanger and praying that it came in petite. Finally, Tracy found it hiding in the back. (Snaps to Tracy on the find). My mind was racing of the many different ways I could style it. I was like a little kid in a candy store. Below is my first attempt to style it. (I hope there are several more to follow). Thoughts on it? Was it a good impulse buy?

Bring it Back

As I head back to school after Thanksgiving, I began to reflect upon the past year. Professionally, my life has changed immensely (despite the fact that I am stilllll living at home with the "roommates"). Last year at this time I was just completely my masters. I was ending my student teaching in an upper middle class suburban school. Since completing my masters, I entered the world of an urban school teacher. Both of my parents teach in the same district but it was just a weeee bit different than my previous school. My Spanish language background quickly came in handy. And look at me this year, teaching 3rd grade in a classroom that used to be a closet in a urban area. While to some, it seems like hell, I love it. It is difficult and often tests my patience, but I wouldn't want to be any where else. I see myself teaching in an urban area as my way of serving my country.

Here is the outfit I wore on the first day back. It turned out of be quite a relaxing way to ease into school. My students impressed me with the amount of knowledge they retained over the Thanksgiving break.

My mother aka my photographer wanted a "festive" picture near one of the many trees in our house. The trees will probably make a continuing appearance throughout the month of December.

Being Thankful

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and Black Friday. I know I am a little delayed on the Thanksgiving Day post, but we have had a full house of people. The past couple days have flown by and have been wonderful. However, I did lose my voice from going out on Wednesday night.

Below is what I wore for Thanksgiving Eve/my birthday. My home friends and I go to the same bar every year. I need something where I look good but not too dressed up. I mean, I still want to impress all people that I haven't seen in years. (I find this especially true now since I am not on a facebook and not everyone can stalk me). It was an awesome night and still remains as one of my favorite holidays. (Yes, I mean Thanksgiving Eve and not Thanksgiving itself).

Girlfriends
The one person missing from the festivities this year was my brother. He was in Chicago with his girlfriend's family. Both of them did make up for it by giving me a season pass to Cannon Mountain for my birthday!!! (So if any of you ski, I will be always looking for a ski partner all season).

Thanksgiving itself was low key and relaxed. We have a family tradition of dressing up as Pilgrims and Indians which is always fun. My cousin's daughter was the new addition to the holiday. (She is adorable!!!) Since Bryan and Rayna were in Chicago, I recruited my sorority sister to come down for the holiday. All around great day.

Now it's time to get ready to prepare for my favorite season...SKI SEASON!!! (I bet you thought I was going to say Christmas)

A Confession

So I have to admit, after 12 days of the 30 for 30 challenge and I'm done. I quit. And I haaateee quitting but I just couldn't do it. I don't really have a good excuse besides, I just wanted to wear my other clothes. I get the point of it..don't buy any more clothes, I have enough. With my birthday weekend and my sorority sisters home and high school friends home, I just wanted to wear something else and different. So I'm admitting it to everyone that who reads this, I lose, I quit.

Buuuttt here's what I've been doing/wearing since we last met.

This is what I wore to school on Friday. I was totally in love with it. I wish my camera didn't die, so you could appreciate the cuteness of this outfit. But here it is. (Btw- my tights were faaabulous)

Also, I went to the Patriots game on Sunday with my sisters and here is our best shots. Our goal was to stay warm while still attempting to look cute.

In case you were wondering, tomorrow happens to be my 25th birthday and my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving Eve!! I'm going to start choosing my outfit and my nail polish color now!

I'm baaackkk!

I feel like I haven't posted an outfit in a whiiile. Well, I'm not counting this weekend as part of my 30 for 30 due to the fact that I spent most of it in workout gear and sweatpants. Well I'm back, wearing dresses, per usual. I feel very collegiate slash sailor-ish. One of my students asked me if I came to work on a boat today.  Yea, I got a good laugh out of it too. I was more excited that he was making a connection to something other than video games. My classroom tends to be on the hot side, that's why I opted for bare legs.

What do we think of my first attempt at real clothes in 2 days?!

Also, I'll say it now, I am going to cheat on the 30 for 30 next Sunday when I go to the Pats game with my sorority sisters. I have to be warm rather than stylish. Just saying!!

Sorry for the Delay

Hello friends,

I am writing to apologize for not posting my outfits in a timely manner. My camera had been MIA for a few days. (Now found!!) On top of that, lately, I have been leaving work feeling defeated. Not in a fashionable sense...in that sense, I've been on top of my game. But my class has been sucking the life out of me. Working smack dab in the inner city is more challenging than I ever thought. I have had to motivate myself daily to go to work.

Also, sorry for getting personal in this blog post. I just needed an outlet. My daily outfits will be back soon. Don't worry, I have no cheated from the remix. However, last night, I totally almost cheated. I wanted to feel hott and sexy and go into the city. I felt that my clothes I chose for the remix were more school appropriate than weekend appropriate. But, alas, I did not cheat. I kept to my word, per usual.

Until next post,
Moe Money

Have a Frattastic Wednesday!

Today was a half day in school. Meaning, that for the second half of the day, we went to do some professional development. We meet with all the other teachers across the city who are in our grade level. It is also a jeans day. I figured I couldn't look like a slob. I went for a polished-casual look. Once I finished my outfit and looked in the mirror, I thought "Wow, I look very frattastic!" Meaning I feel like a true sorority girl. Lately I have been having flashbacks of my college years. Today reminded me of this, especially with my oversized men's watch (thrifted) that I could have easily 'borrrowed' from a frat daddy. Some days, I hate looking too frattastic, but today, I'm loving it. I wish you could have seen my Vineyard Vines tote and my Lilly travel mug. I chose to wear my high school medallion instead of my lavaliere. (Mostly because I have no idea where it is! Eeek)

Cheers to no school tomorrow. Thanks Vets! I'm going out for a drink, on you, tonight*

Remix- Day Uno

Today begins Day 1 of no shopping and my 30 for 30 fashion remix. (I feel like I should have Jock Jams playing the background for this). Since I do not have Jock Jams as readily available as I would like, this should supplement

Let's get ready to REEEEMMMIIIXXXXX!!!!

Usually, I take my pictures before I head to school. It is usually when I am excited for the day (and the outfit). However, today I was running late. As you can see from my face and my body pose, this is taken after school...after my students bombed a reading test when I gave them the answers before hand. Needless to say, it was a rough Monday. Thank God for a half day on Wednesday and no school on Thursday.

Today was super easy to pick out an outfit. I hope this energy for remix-ing doesn't dwindle as my energy for school often does.

Let the Remix-ing Begin

So tomorrow starts my first day of the 30 for 30 remix. As I said before, it is my first time doing this. I finally chose the clothes that I will be remix-ing. Check it out.

5 Skirts + 6 shirts + 5 cardigans + 5 pairs of pants + 5 pairs of shoes + 4 dress = Let the remixing begin!!!

Little Black Dress Night

Last night I felt like I was back in college, getting ready for a sorority date night party. Sarah's brother, D Franchise and his friend, Contrary were performing last night in Lowell. Sarah had the girls over for a little black dress pre-game party. It was so much fun! Below is me with the hostess. I wish I had taken a picture of the back of the dress. It was all cut out in the back. Total hottness!

Although once we got to the bar, we soon realized that we were the only ones in the theme. So, yes, we were those girls. Oh well, so worth it.

30 for 30

Hey Friends,

On Monday, I will be joining Kendi Everyday in her 30 for 30 challenge. What is that you ask? I take 30 articles of clothing and make 30 different outfits. (And no shopping for 30 days, eek!) Shoes do count however accessories and jackets do not count. I'm hoping it will help me better shop by closet and become more creative. My bank account could also use the break.

On Sunday, I will post the 30 articles of clothing that I chose to remix. Remember, these clothes need to take me to work and to play. Let's cross our fingers and hope it works! Woop Woop! Who wants to try this with me? Any takers??

Happy Hoot-aween

So sorry for not blogging in over a week. Big things have been happening over here. I switched schools across town. I've been living and breathing school work. I now work with my best friend from middle school and a few of my brother's friends. It's funny. It is like we are all just playing a big game of school.

Hoot! Hoot! I was an owl for Halloween this year. I didn't actually go out for Halloween. I started making this costume last month. It took forever but I love love love it. My mom made me put it on and drive around town showing my family and friends. I'm glad I didn't get pulled over. Next year, I hope to wear it to school. HaHa What do you think of the costume?

Nana Knows Best

Can you believe that it is only Wednesday? I woke up this morning and something reminded me of my Nana. I just couldn't stop thinking about her. Therefore, I wore her skirt. Yep, you heard that right, I wore one of my Nana's skirts. (My nana was 86 when she passed away 4 years ago). It is brown herringbone. Can't go wrong there. She was such a stylish sassy lady. However, I think Nana wore the skirt with the matching jacket. I prefer to wear them as separates. I paired the skirt with my favorite color of green to wear.

I'm having a little bit of writers/bloggers block but I wanted to show off Nana's clothes. Enjoy.

PS- This is a rare occasion occasion in which my hair is straight. What do you think? I think I look like a weirdo but I didn't feel like washing it today.

Start Off with a Roar

On most mornings, my alarm goes off at 6:08 am and I lay in bed for about 10 minutes thinking about my outfit today. By the time I 6:18 am rolls around, I am ready to hop in the shower and start my day. Today it was dark and cold and the last thing I wanted to do was to wake up. As I got in the shower, I still had no idea what I was going to wear. All I knew was that it was definitely a tights day. I was eager to try out my new belt that I picked up that weekend. Overall, I am happy with this last minute outfit choice.

Funny story about these boots. I bought them last year at Forever 21 for some amazing steal. I wanted them sooo bad even though they did not have my size I still bought them...a size an a half too big. On a good day, my foot measures in at a size 6. These boots are a size 7 1/2. For that reason, I can only wear these boots in small doses.

Another note about shoe size... My foot was officially measured when I went to buy new ski boots and it measure a 5 1/2. WHAT!?! Who has feet that small!? And since ski boots you buy a size smaller, my boots look like midget boots.

In honor of this upcoming ski season, I painted my nails China Glaze "Black Diamond" from their Ski Collection a few years ago. I can not tell you how excited I am for ski season! Bring on the mountain men!!

Casual Saturday

Yesterday, UConn Alumni hosted a Pub Crawl/Scavenger Hunt throughout the Back Bay. It was an afternoon event so I wanted something casual. I also wanted an excuse to show off my new kicks. With the cuffed jeans and the Converse sneaks, I felt a little like Baby from Dirty Dancing. I figured I would be the only one who would make that reference and decided to wear the outfit anyway. I added the ring and the earrings so I didn't look too much like a boy.

The pub crawl/scavenger hunt was through drinkandhunt.com. Basically, the representatives organize everything for your organization. While my team, Team GFA, was more into the drinking aspect than the hunting aspect, it was a good afternoon. It combined all things I like: UConn, drinking, Boston, and trivia.

In honor of Team GFA (grenade free America), Tracy and I sported the Snooki poof.
